Redesigned OS update management experience for macOS

You spoke, we delivered! We are excited to announce the new macOS OS Update Management experience built to improve how IT teams plan, track, and execute OS updates at scale.
Instead of pushing updates directly to devices, OS updates are now structured around Operations, giving you a cleaner, more traceable way to manage the entire update lifecycle.
You can now create OS Update Operations and group devices while publishing updates.
Each Operation lets you:
Select MDM protocol (DDM or Legacy)
Configure update deadlines
Enable self-service updates
Track success, failure, and in-progress status in real time
Dive into device-level events and download execution reports anytime
The all-new OS update overview dashboard
A single place to see what’s really happening with updates across your environment.
The dashboard refreshes daily and shows:
Updated, pending, and failed updates with overall success rate
Snapshot of available and expiring updates
Active, user-initiated, and system-driven operations in progress
Improved Update, Device, and Events views
We’ve kept the familiar views you already use; nothing disappears here!
Along with these, the new Events view gives you a clean timeline of OS update activity, filterable by device or group.
What else changed
A device can now be part of only one active OS Update Operation at a time. Assigning a new operation automatically disassociates the previous one.
No more full-screen interruptions! Update reminders are now non-blocking.
Configure the reminder frequency as:
Daily
Every 3 days
Progressive reminders (weekly, then daily closer to deadline)
A guided walkthrough is shown on first visit to help you migrate to the new experience.
Migration behaviour
Eligible admins (Owner, Co-Account Owner, and Admins with full update permissions) can migrate to the new flow.
Devices on older agent versions will continue receiving updates, but will automatically appear under Operations for tracking in the new system.
Self-service OS Update support requires upgrading to agent version 5.14.8 (585). Older versions will not support self-service visibility or reminders.
